Mardi Gras

COW POOP
All in all the weather has been quite nice in New Orleans.
C & J picked a good time to go there as we in NYS and PA are being hit by yet another big snow storm today.
Here is part II of our virtual vacation---
Relaxing at home in Des Allemands.

Carol and Jimmy enjoy the famous
"King Cake."
"Tinkerbell" patiently waits for Carol to drop a morsel or two.

Ah, spring.  Green grass, trees budding, short-sleeved shirts, bare feet.

Well, if that "Tink" isn't quite the ham for the camera.

This is author ANNE RICE'S former home.

OAK ALLEY PLANTATION

Now, about Oak Alley:  Carol has always wanted to visit this place.  Lew and I visited it, too, back in 2007.

Here I am at Oak Alley.  It was HOT when we were there.  I was wondering if the trees looked the same in March as they did in early fall when we were there.

oops---Anne Rice's home again.

Mardi Gras from St. Charles Avenue in front of FAT HARRY's BAR.
You can see the beads being tossed toward the top of the picture.

Hmmmm.

Hope this has taken your mind off of the snow storm for at least a  little while!

  1. Hey Cindy! Happy Mardi Gras! We're having a great time with Carol and Jim. I am enjoying the fun of showing my fun and interesting city to them. Just a note...the very first and last photos under the heading "Oak Alley" are not actually Oak Alley, rather it's Anne Rice's former house. (The 2 story white house with the narrow white columns was Anne's) All the other photos are Oak Alley. We're taking lots more photos so watch for more to come!
Lassiez le bon ton roule, everyone!

  2. Does that mean "let the good times roll?" I did take 5 years of French, but I really am guessing.

  3. You got it on the translation, Sis! And nice postings of pics. More were just sent. Kerry, Carol and Jim went to Cafe du Monde for some cafe au lait and beignets this morning before coming to hear the sermon (and seeing me play and sing with the band I'm in there) at church. Then we drove across the Causeway Bridge of Lake Ponchatrain, the longest bridge in the world, and went to the Abita Brew Pub for lunch. Mmmmmmmmmmm... brew puuuuuuuuuuuuub.

  5. Wanted to mention that we are on a street car riding down St. Charles Avenue in that one pic, and where I'm grinning in front of it is when we got off. Also, we had a brewski at a local favorite - Cooter Browns - who boast of a million different kind of beers. Also, the one of me at that Episcopal church, can you guess what I was buying? You got it! A brewski. That was on St. Charles Avenue, too, before the parades started as we were walking over to look at Anne Rice's former home in the Garden District. Finally, you can see our house in the background with Kerry's white Equinox in the driveway in that one pic where we all went for a walk. Whew! We're taking it easy today, maybe going for a leisurely drive. We'll make homemade pasta tonight for din din, probably with a shrimp basil-pesto sauce, and of course, with a little Merlot. Yummmmm! C&J leave tomorrow morning, so we're slowing down a tad today.
