In the Good 'Ole Summertime

FATHERS' DAY

Lacey gave Barry this funny coffee mug.  I'm sure Timmy is soooo jealous!

And how about this tee shirt that was one of Tommy's Fathers' Day gifts!  It's "Willie, Willie" cool!

*********

Steve was in our area this week because he had a mock trial, in Oswego, to attend.

After his workday concluded, he drove to Barry & Nancy's to get  his Kubota onto a rented trailer to take back to NJ with him.

Barry was a tremendous help, first getting a bicycle rack off of Steve's car (it was stuck) and then putting the hitch and ball onto the car.
Steve was so impressed with Barry's auto garage!  It took a blow torch and other tools, but the bike rack came off.  I told Steve, "If Barry cannot get it off, no one can!"

Okay, the car is ready---time to hook up the trailer.  Almost there!

Nearly 8 P.M.---ready to load the Kubota onto the trailer.   But  . . .

it would not fit!!!  No way!  After an hour and a half of work, and thinking we were home free, the Kubota would not fit onto the trailer!
All I can say is that UHAUL has false advertising.  The trailer says
5x9.  The Kubota is just under 5' wide.  What we did not realize is that the trailer width is 5' outside.  The interior width is 4' 9".

With no other options available, Steve returned to NJ sans Kubota.
And Andrew must have been disappointed:(

Andrew roasting marshmallows at home that very night, probably looking forward to seeing Dad drive in with the Kubota . .

BUMMER!

What is it?
Nancy spotted this unusual moth on a garage window a few days ago and grabbed her camera.

Nancy took both of these photos
I Googled it, describing the moth, and discovered it is a LUNA MOTH--and it is endangered.

This quote is from the article on the Luna Moth (link below).
People rarely see Luna Moths, mostly because they fly late at night. It is a treat to see one, because they are very beautiful insects. Humans have caused Luna Moths to become endangered by pollution and loss of habitat. Luna Moth caterpillars do not do much damage to trees.

So keep your eyes open everyday for simple pleasures like this!
Our world is beautiful.

MISSION NOT IMPOSSIBLE

I live near the Steuben County Clerk's Office.   Tommy asked me to do some research there.  He wanted to know the date that Mom and Daddy bought the farm.
I took this photo upon entering the office.

I was directed to the area where I could research this item.  The people were extremely helpful!  I saw all the old books with the information I sought; all that info is now on computers, showing handwritten entries---thank goodness!

While talking to one clerk and giving her the info:  "Route 36, R.D.1, Canisteo, farm, possibly 1937 or 1938," etc., another clerk, sitting at her desk, spoke up.  "Are you talking about the ALLEN FARM?"  Wow!  Turns out this lady is the daughter of the people who purchased our farm in 1961!!!  What a coincidence!

Patty Stewart Peisher (the late Bob Peisher's daughter-in-law) and I then had quite a talk.  Patty was a year ahead of Timmy in high school.  Her brother now owns the farm.
This turned out to be a great day for me---talking about the past with people directly connected to it!

By the time we finished our visit, her co-worker had found and printed the deed for me---it was 1940.  I sent it on to Tommy.

*NOTE:  Tommy thinks this is correct.  He also believes Mom and Daddy moved to the farm and worked it several years before actually buying it and thus, the 1940 date.

THE  HEAT IS ON!
We think we have it bad---It is BRUTAL in Louisiana, as Timmy mentions often.

When the sun goes down it is still in the 80's there, but out on the porch with a cool glass of wine some relief is achieved.
"Tinky" has a HUGE fan club here in the north!
                     Timmy is okay, too.

Speaking of "chillin'". . .

"Taffy," Nancy's big fuzzy bundle of love, knows how to stay cool!

SCHOOL IS OUT!
. . . and no one is happier than the TEACHERS!
Tom Mayo and his wife, Amy, and sister Erin are all elementary school teachers.  They all  headed for MYRTLE BEACH the minute school dismissed (accompanied by Erin's boyfriend, Vinnie).  It is sort of a tradition with Tom and his wife, and Erin joined in to celebrate.

Roy being "Roy!"
(Lookin' good, Roy!)
I am guessing Roy may have posted this on FB, so it may not be new to many.  I stay away from politics on my site, but this is really funny.  Hey, send in a pic of yourself in a Hillary tee shirt, and I will post it---but without COMMENTS!  Equal time  on
Green Acres:)

Timmy and Kerry dined at this seafood restaurant after church yesterday.  After all his GRILLING, Pi Man was hankering for something different.

That fish has not aged a day!!

Flashback:  September 2007

Lew worked for FEMA for several years after retiring from NYS.
The work after "Katrina" took years.
I visited him there and we were able to spend time with Timmy and Kerry.
Here we all are in 2007at the same restaurant, Sparhr's, back then,

  1. I like how Steve and Nancy are color coordinated in their outfits. Coincidence? I think NOT! :-) Good eye, Nancy, to realize that was a special moth. Very cool that you ran into Patty Stewart, daughter of the folks that bought the farm. I remember her brother Mike more so than her. Thanks for the pics of me and Tinky, and for mentioning Tim, Jr. while he's away on the mission trip. :-)
