JANUARY

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

A small group of us played board games at Nancy & Barry's on New Year's Day afternoon.  It was a fun time.  Here is our obligatory "crazy" picture.

Tommy and Judy's grandchildren---Alison & Drew's kids---were allowed to stay up until midnight to ring in the new year!  Cute!

Tommy & Judy just had to rub it in---this is their lunch on Christmas Eve day;)

Timmy & I shared pictures of our Christmas mugs via texting, for several days before Christmas.  So on that theme, they hit the after-Christmas sales and found a perfect new coffee mug for me!

Hope you are all staying warm!
My new socks are coming in handy.

Baking is one way to warm up the kitchen.

I found a recipe for German Apple Cake online.  I have really cut down on sweets, so this looked good.  It is mostly apples---four cups of chopped Cortlands.  It has a scant amount of flour, just enough to make it a "cake."  Lots of cinnamon flavor---no frosting.
It's very good!

I usually don't taste baked items while they are warm.  But I did with this cake.  It was delish---just a dab of ice cream.  When it was cool it was great with coffee in the a.m.  *I actually prefer it plain, without ice cream when it's at room temp.

Nancy and I get apples from the local apple truck.  She put hers into a pie, but admits it is getting a bit boring.  Very nice job, tho.
I shared my German apple cake with her.

Okay, BEFORE I started cutting down on my sugar intake I
enjoyed French toast with real maple syrup, made by my son on Christmas Day.  He uses Challah bread and it is decadent!

A rare time when both my grandchildren are together!
Little Catherine really looks up to Andrew!

Timmy helping at a local food bank.
I will say that because of Nancy's son, Brett, and Wegman's involvement with the Southern Tier Food bank, I have recently come to support this great cause.  Sometimes we just overlook what we can do to help in our little corner of the world.

Keep cracking the whip, Kerry.  Timmy has some
really high ceilings to clean in his house!

I received these photos in the mail from Anne & Jeff in
my Christmas card.  Anne has a photo studio in the
house and took these right before we left for Ocktoberfest.
First time I have seen them.

Andrew got his first skiing experience over Christmas
vacation and loved it.  I dog sat and watched
"The Crown," (Claire recommended) on Netflix.
It was excellent.

Finally. . .

These are difficult days for our family.  Pray
for Patty like never before.  May the God of all comfort
wrap his arms around her.

Love, Cindy

  1. Thanks for the family pictures. Patty was holding the reunion t-shirt that Tommy brought for all of us. I still have mine. It is good to remember the better times.
