February

What the family is doing in this shortest month of the year:

Reading is a good pastime when you are stuck inside or just bored.
I have been trying to read more---have been reading some classics that I never read.
I just finished Far From The Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy.  I read The Mayor of Casterbridge by Hardy last year.  The sentences are long and involved in this author's writings.  I had to read them (sentences) twice, or more, in some cases.   Also, some words he used were not in the dictionary---out of usage.  While I really enjoyed both books, I'm moving on to a new author.

This came out as a movie last year.

Mary Ann is an avid reader.  Her favorite author is John Grisham and she has read every book he has written.

Mary Ann with all of her novels by John Grisham.
Mary Ann says:
My favorite is his first work of nonfiction. "The Innocent Man"
Like it says on the back cover,
If you believe that in America you are innocent until proven guilty, this book will shock you. If you believe in the death penalty, this book will disturb you.

You've got mail!

Just this past weekend the latest Grisham book arrived---love Amazon!

Adult coloring books are the rage right now.  Nancy received one for Christmas this year.

Nancy and I noticed how very detailed these coloring books are---almost too much so.  In spite of this, Nancy is enjoying coloring.  I will submit her first masterpiece when she finishes it.  I know you cannot wait!

So, to help ease the excitement, I am submitting my first attempt at coloring.  I selected the most simple book I could find and this is one of its most basic pictures.  Still, I find it difficult choosing a pleasing color scheme.  Where is Sister S. when you need her!!
I used color pencils for this.

If you are into the new coloring fad, send me a picture!
I accept stick figures and ink blobs, too:-O

    AUNT CINDY,
As you know from our conversation at my house last year, I love Far from the Madding Crowd. I’ve read other Hardy novels and like them too, but my absolute favorite book (by any author) is Hardy’s Jude the Obscure. Don’t stop reading his novels until you read that one! Dickens is a favorite of mine too. I just finished reading David Copperfield (all 800 pages of it), which I’m directing at Stages now, with 6th- through 12th-graders playing the parts. If you’re looking for an easy read after Thomas Hardy, then try that one by Dickens. A lot of other Dickens novels have flowery language, but I found Copperfield very easy to read, even though it’s long (don’t let that scare you away).

  8. As for reading, I can't wait for the 8th "book" in the Harry Potter series! Though technically it's a play, I can't wait to download "Harry Potter & The Cursed Child" at 12:01 am on 7/31/2016. It's a good thing that day is a Sunday!
